Obituary of John Albert Decker-Harris
John Decker-Harris passed away in the comfort of his home, June 28, 2022.
John was born to Charles Milton Decker III and Dorothy Bludworth Medlin Decker in Bryan, Texas, February 28. 1947. Before John was a year old, the family moved to San Marcos, Texas and later to San Antonio, Texas where John spent most of his childhood. In later years John referred to San Antonio as his home.
After graduating from Greenville High School in 1966, where the family had moved in earlier years, John earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State) in 1970. He then completed his Masters of Theology at Southern Methodist University in 1975.
John served as a Methodist minister for 30 years. Upon leaving the ministry, he worked in men’s haberdashery retiring from the Men’s Warehouse in 2009. John’s hobbies were reading, crafting, watching documentaries and collecting unique crucifixes.
John was preceded in death by his parents Charles Milton Decker III and Dorothy Bludworth Medlin Decker and his brothers Charles Milton Decker IV and James William Decker. He is survived by his husband of almost 25 years Terance Decker-Harris; sons Andrew John Decker and Stephen Patrick Decker; grandsons Austin Decker, Travis Decker and Thomas Decker; and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
Memorial Services for John will be held Sunday July 10th at 2pm in the Hutto Discovery United Methodist Church sanctuary at 350 Ed Schmidt Blvd, Hutto, TX 78634, with a repast in the Discovery Center.
