Obituary of Shirlee Jo Werba

Shirlee Jo Werba, age 91, of Flatonia, TX passed away peacefully on April 13, 2022. Shirlee was born on August 18, 1930 in St. Joseph, MO to Beaulah and Gerry Varin. While attending college at Mount St. Scholastica in Achison, KS, she met the love of her life, Kenneth Werba. After graduation and Ken’s stint in the Army, they were married and made their home in Mundelein, IL.  Shirlee was an English teacher before becoming a homemaker and mother of four children, Jaime, Kenneth (KC), Jody and Judy.  She was an amazing mother, friend and confidant. She was beautiful, kind, sweet, loving, fun, funny, loved to laugh, non-judgmental, giving, generous. She loved animals, sports (playing and watching). She loved music, singing, dancing, art, drama. She loved traveling and camping and just being outdoors.  But most of all she loved her family.  Life threw her a curve ball when her husband suddenly passed away in 1983. They did everything together. Devastated and heartbroken, she found peace through much prayer, reading the Bible and growing her relationship with Jesus. She showed incredible strength and courage to continue these last 39 years. She was truly the example of “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phillipians 4-13

Shirlee is survived by her son, Kenneth C. Werba (Marie) of Leesburg, FL, daughters Jaime Wood of Gilbert, AZ, Jody Driskell (David) of Waelder, TX, Judy Dost (Michael) of Prairieville, LA, grandchildren Lauren Young (Ben) of Wichita, KS, Lydia Moschgat (Matthew) of Honolulu, HI, Daniel Perry of Cedar Park, TX, Drew Perry (Jessica) of Pflugerville, TX, Dillon Driskell of Flatonia, TX, Stephen Willems (Kim) of Prairieville, LA, Nicole Ross (Jason) of Boston, MA, Jordyn Dost of Prairieville, LA, and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth A. Werba, parents Beaulah and Gerry Varin, and sister Patricia Jurrens.

A memorial service for Shirlee will be held at a later date.
