Aunt Shirlee was my last surviving relative (besides my cherished cousins). My Mom, her only sibling, died in 1957. A couple of summers, my brother, Jeff, and I would be put on a bus to Chicago to visit our grandparents, Bea and Gerry Varin, Shirlee's parents. Later, during my professional career, when I was sent to Chicago for assignments, I would always try to stop by Shirlee's home in Mundelein to visit. I truly enjoyed her optimism and had many wonderful conversations with her about life. Sadly, I don't remember my Uncle Ken after all these years.
I'm SO grateful to my cousins for their loving care of Aunt Shirlee. I was always amazed at how absolutely healthy my Aunt looked, despite her failing memory in later years. I know her incredible faith kept her strong. Thank you, Jody, Jaime, Judy and KC.
