Obituary of Nelson Ray Hall
Nelson Ray Hall passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the Sundance Memory Care in Cedar Park, Texas. Nelson was 82 and had suffered from dementia in recent years.
Nelson was born on September 30, 1938 to Nelson Andrew Hall and Helen E. Kocurek in Granger, Texas. He graduated from Granger High School in 1957 and married Ann Zrubek. Following his dream, he enlisted in the US Army. His 21-year military career took him to numerous assignments overseas and in the states. While on a tour of duty in Korea, Nelson received medals for a heroic helicopter flood rescue. He also received medals while serving in Vietnam and Thailand. During his military career, Nelson earned his B.S. Degree in Business at St. Benedicts College in Atchison, Kansas. Nelson retired from the military in October 1978, while stationed in Ft. Hood, where he had risen to the rank of Major.
After his retirement, Nelson followed another one of his dreams and took up farming and ranching, while also working as an insurance adjustor and area director with RVOS Insurance. He enjoyed spending time outdoors on his land, and he loved spending time indoors with his cats.
Nelson is survived by his five children Terri Hall and husband Eddie Boufford of Georgetown, TX; Linda Burns and husband Brad of Georgetown, TX; Nelson Hall and wife Shirley of Bartlett, TX; Monica Spray and husband Kevin of Midland, TX; and Ken Hall and wife Cindy of Taylor, TX. Nelson has 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Nelson was an excellent provider for his family. He instilled in his children responsibility and a strong work ethic.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Sundance Memory Care and Traditions Health Hospice Care for providing attentive service for Nelson in his final years.
A viewing will be held for Nelson Hall on Sunday, June 6th at 4:00 pm at the Austin-Peel and Son Funeral Home in Austin, Texas. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm in this same location.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, June 7th at 10:30 am at SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Granger with the burial to follow at the Granger City Cemetery.
