The last time I saw Jimmy his mother had recently passed, though his heart was undoubtedly heavy, he was surprisingly upbeat. I hugged him, offered him my condolences, and then he asked me if I wanted to take a shot with him. We chatted a bit and he introduced me to the people with whom he was sitting as his “cousin.” We saw one another more frequently years earlier, but Jimmy didn’t care, to him I was his cousin. That’s just the kind of guy Jimmy was—he had a huge heart, was fiercely loyal, but did not suffer fools lightly. And then there was that big laugh, and one of a kind beaming smile. I’ll never forget you, Jimmy. Rest well, surf the stars with abandon.
