Obituary
Obituary of Bernice Maria Johnson
Please share a memory of Bernice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bernice Maria Johnson was born in Pawnee, Texas on November 23, 1929. On February 28th 2019 her family began the celebration of her life. Bernice with her family, moved to the Manor area when she was in elementary school. This was close to her family roots in the Palm Valley/Hutto area. She graduated High School in Elgin, Texas where her sister, Ann Louise, taught Home Economics. After high school, she attended Texas Lutheran University and started her first and only lifelong job at Austin National Bank (today it is Bank of America). Bernice was never married, and very independent; however, she was an integral part of our family. She was the ultimate caregiver taking care of her parents and her sister. The only thing more important than her family was her Swedish Lutheran traditions and faith. The song she always sang was “Living for Jesus a Life that is True” which was how she lived everyday of her life. The only other thing that came close to family and church was a love of SPORTS, especially at The University of Texas, where she held season tickets to the baseball games for as many years as she was able. We all loved her and will miss her greatly. She was preceded in death by her brother, Elwood, who was killed in action during World War II, her parents Lewis and Olga, sister Ann Louise Clark , Ronald Clark (her loving brother-in-law), and her niece Donna Clark Stauffer. She is survived by her niece Beverly Clark Bakir and husband Issam “Sam” and sons Tarik and Trevor (Jinjuta). Donna’s husband Douglas Stauffer and family Rhiannon Leshikar (Kris) and son Elliott, Andrew Stauffer, and Ron Schaeffer (Chiori) and children Addisen and Cassandra.
