Betty Saenz, Betty Sandstrom’s granddaughter posted a condolence
Sunday, March 3, 2019
I will miss my friend Bernice. I was so sad to hear of her passing. I am heading out to Gethsemane. Thanks Elena Bennett Saragosa for letting me know. I think the story goes like this: My grandparents, Betty Signe (Bengtson) and Oscar Waldemar Sandstrom sold Sigrid Johnson the lot next door to theirs on Texas Avenue and Montrose. Sigrid had a duplex built and lived in the bottom half. Sigrid took me to church at Gethsemane at 200 W Anderson Ln, when I was a little girl. Sigrid also treated me to root beer floats and Scrabble games at her house, a duplex on Texas Avenue. We also went to Ann Louise's home across from Hancock Golf Course many, many times and I remember being treated to sherbet there. In later years it was Bernice who would go to the Swedish Midsummer Celebration with me t the SPJST Hall, located at 702 Highway 95 in Elgin. Sigrid has been gone a long time. Now it is so sad to say goodbye to Bernice, Sigrid's niece, too. It feels like saying goodbye to a whole era...

Bernice and I were roommates in West Hall when we were at Texas Lutheran. We lost contact over the past 70 years but I still remember her as a happy, kind and helpful friend to me and all the girls in West Hall {1948-1949]. A life that touched so many can never be forgotten.

Bernice and I both worked for the Austin National Bank, and while we didn't work in the same department, I was very fortunate to get to know her from the time I joined the Bank in 1970. Always very pleasant and friendly, she was a very good employee.
With sincere sympathy,
Shirley Ellis

Bernice was a faithful Israel Reunion attendee. We always enjoyed getting to see her. I'm glad to have been able to know and love her. Thank you, Beverly and family, for continuing to care for her all these years.

You have our sympathy in the loss of your Aunt Bernice. I know she was very close to your family and loved to be with you on very special occasions. She was always there when we came to visit from Ohio.
We know she will be missed but she no longer is suffering.
We love you all.
