Susan was my best friend when we both lived in Carbondale, IL. I was there when she had Emily and Joel and we went in and out of each other’s homes like sisters! Our kids played together. We were in a babysitting coop together and church groups. We even spent several times in Sedgewickville, MO with Susan and her family as well as great times in St. Louis. We lost touch for years and then found each other on Facebook. Her death is clearly such a loss to her family and friends! From reading these tributes here, I’m comforted that she had such support from her friends and family. Geoff, Emily and Joel—I think of you often and remember your childhoods with love. I wish I’d known Dana too, but you were an infant when we lost touch.

Patrick and all of Susan's family - Lori and I were heart broken to hear of Susan's sudden death. We always enjoyed seeing her quilting projects and sharing conversations about the people behind the quilt that would soon to be gifted to them - most recently grandchildren. Her legacy of a loving family and her lovely quilts will keep her alive in the memory of her friends and family. You are all in our prayers for comfort and peace of mind at this difficult time.

On behalf of Tara Troyer’s “California family”, I would like to communicate our sincerest condolences to all of Susan’s family. I know that Susan was such a great big sister to Tara and she meant the world to her. Tara has always spoken so fondly of the connection they shared as sisters when they were young and how much Tara was affected by her big sister moving up and out as they grew older. Tara cherished her family and her sister, Susan. Tara is now alone without her sister Susan to support her and to allow her to lean when she needed a shoulder.
May I offer my sincerest, deep felt sorrow for Tara and Susan’s family as they just past the 1st anniversary of their Dad, Gene’s death and now Susan is gone, too. Tara had just spoken to Susan on Saturday evening, Tara’s birthday. She didn’t know it would be their last conversation. Sometimes life just seems so unfair.
I’m sure Patrick, the kids, grandchildren and all of the family will all miss Susan. May she rest in peace knowing that she was so fondly loved.
Most sincerely,
Patty Martin-Claspell
Salinas, California

I only had a chance to work with Susan for a short time as our agency was transitioning and we were going different ways. However, in that short period I was blessed as I had the opportunity to enjoy the company of an intelligent, talented and compassionate woman. I'll never forget the day we discovered we had an addiction to quilting & fabric in common :) The love she had for family, quilting and humanity was remarkable. I'm not sure Susan ever met a stranger, as it immediately felt like I knew her for years. My thoughts & prayers are with each of you. I hope the memories & love she shared so selflessly help you heal in the days to come ♡

I’m so sorry to hear about Susan! Sending peace and prayers to her family, especially her husband Patrick. I had the pleasure of knowing Susan through the Austin Modern Quilt Guild. She lead us through one of the big growth spurts. She was patient and took on a big role, all the while guiding our group with dignity and a breadth of knowledge and insight. She always had a smile when showing off a finished quilt. I’m going to miss seeing her ongoing quilt projects on Instagram and Facebook.

I'm so saddened to hear about Susan's passing. She was a joy to create with, and I so appreciate her leadership and kindness in her role as President of the Austin Modern Quilt Guild. She was so generous with her time and skills in leading an enduring sewing group and volunteering to make charity kits and quilts. Her patience and giving nature were inspiring and unforgettable. Her legacy will endure, but we will miss her dearly.

I am sending my sincerest sympathy and healing energy for her entire family and friends. I worked with Susan for several years with the ECI program at HHSC; we traveled together frequently for monitoring trips. On the trips I got to know her well; she always talked about her family, kids and grandkids! She knew a lot about the good restaurants in the big and especially the small towns in Texas, and always had good recommendations! I appreciated her expertise, her calm demeanor, her honesty and her warm heart. She truly loved her family and it showed in how she always talked about them. I will miss her as a colleague and friend. Rest In Peace.

My deepest sympathy goes to the entire McAdams family. Susan was an awesome coworker with a kind and gentle spirit. I met her when I first move to Texas in 2013 and she was such a blessing. We monitored a program in Houston, TX and during that trip we got the opportunity to fellowshipped at Joel Osteen church for Wednesday night service. She was truly a beautiful person.
