Jean Felder Shelton
JANUARY 24, 1929 – MARCH 14, 2022
Jean Felder Shelton passed away peacefully on Monday, March 14, 2022, after a long life, lived well, with zest, grace, style and contagious enthusiasm. Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband, William (“Bill”) F. Shelton, and is survived by their two daughters, Amanda Shelton Allen and Lisa Shelton Jaubert. Jean is also survived by her son-in-law, Amanda’s husband Robert Allen; and by their children Jason, Brian and Emily, as well as Brian’s wife, Tara Murphy Allen, and their children Hunter and Hannah, and Emily’s husband, John Denny Montgomery, and their children Jack, Lane and Thomas; and by many other family members and friends.
Jean was born in Huntsville, Texas, on January 24, 1929. She attended Sophie Newcomb College, meeting Bill while in New Orleans. After a time in Houston, Texas, Jean and Bill, with their daughters, moved to Venezuela, enjoying many years there with wonderful friends. On Bill’s retirement, Jean and Bill moved to Austin, allowing them to share actively in the lives of their grandchildren and daughters, and to delight in the company of friends, new and old. Jean and Bill also loved to travel, embarking on adventures to far parts of the globe, and to entertain family and friends, always setting a festive table in their art-filled home.
Jean was also predeceased by her parents, Ernestine Anding Felder and Judson Carlus Felder, and her brother and his wife, Jack and Anne Felder.
The family will gather graveside in Huntsville, Texas, at a later date. In lieu of customary remembrances, please consider a donation in memory of Jean and Bill to the Audubon Society or a charity of your choice.
