Obituary of Agnes Kramer

Please share a memory of Agnes to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Agnes Marie Kramer lived to an unbelievable 97 years of age. She was one of 12 siblings born and raised in the small town of Hutto, Texas. In her early years, she attended Monadale School and later moved on to Hutto High School, where she graduated. As a Hutto Hippo, she was very involved in sports and was touted as an excellent volleyball player.

Agnes loved all of her brothers and sisters dearly and held many wonderful memories of times with them. She married Robert (Bobby) J. Kramer, Jr. in May of 1951, who preceded her in death. She is survived by three children, Beverly Kramer, Paula Cutchen and husband Steve, and Robert J. Kramer III and wife Norma; grandchildren Ryan Cutchen and wife Ania, Erin Simmons and husband Nick, Alyssa, Emma and Ben Kramer. She also has many nieces, nephews and friends who she truly loved.

Agnes told us of her many childhood memories. Times were tough and she and her brothers and sisters worked hard on the farm. They learned how to make times fun with the little that they had, like pretending corncobs were their dolls! Christmas was sometimes a bag of jellybeans. As a young woman, Agnes worked as a night-shift telephone operator in Taylor and later moved on to The Texas Mailing Shop. She always enjoyed swimming, bowling, cross-stitching and knitting. After dedicating several years to raising her family and helping out at the family carpet business, Agnes returned to work as a secretary at American Amicable and subsequently, American General. She finally retired at the age of 68, at which time she filled her days spending time with Bobby, being with her grandchildren (whom she adored), and taking day excursions with her relatives to nearby towns. Agnes also enjoyed reconnecting with some of her Swedish heritage by speaking some Swedish when the opportunity arose. As a young girl, she recalled being ridiculed for the sing-songy accent of the language that she grew up with. In her later years, she spoke it proudly and with perfection!

In the years preceding his death, Agnes was a devoted spouse in caring for Bobby through his health battles. She was always there by his side. She was, indeed, a very strong woman in so many ways. It is now her time to be at peace, but she will be truly missed!
