Pat hired me at DHS in 1989.
I needed the job, just moved back to Austin from Seattle, new father with a new baby boy. She was a supportive and fun boss, both clever and tough in how she engaged in battling the bureaucracy of a pretty entrenched and hidebound old state agency. Always had my back as I was learning how to do the same. She knew how to throw a party. 31 one years later, I'm still trying to clean up my language, after working with her. :)
