Obituary of Elsie Karvelas

Elsie Karvelas, (Ganakis),96,of Austin, Texas, formally of Philadelphia, Pa. passed away on July 2, 2020.

Burial will be at the Fernwood Cemetery in Philadelphia, Pa. on Friday, July 10th. 

Elsie was born in Philadelphia, Pa. to Theodore and Maria Ganakis. She worked at Curtis Publishing. Elsie married Stephen Karvelas and raised two children. In later years, she volunteered at Wooten Elementary School, in Austin, Texas as a foster grandparent. There she enjoyed tutoring many children in reading and math and assisting in the library.

Elsie is survived by her daughter Christine, Son-in-law Mark, and grandson Logan. 

Elsie is proceeded in death by her husband Stephen, her son James and her parents, sister, and brother. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Transfiguration Greek Orthodox church in  Austin, Texas, the Anderson Lane SPCA animal shelter of Austin and the PTA at Wooten Elementary in Austin. 

Much thanks to our relatives in Philadelphia for their support and coordination of the burial.  

A memorial service celebrating Elsie's life will be held at a latter date.
