Obituary of Ernest Louis Choitz

Ernest Louis Choitz of Meadowlakes, Tezas entered Heaven at the age of 83 May 29,2020 at 2:30 pm centeral daylight time. Ernie, was a demetia resident of Kinglsand Hills Care Center for the past 5 and a half months. 

Ernie was born in Ellsworth, Kansas August 3, 1936 to Arthur Herman Choitz and Louise Frieda Bender Choitz. 
Ernie was Baptized August 16, 1936 and was confirmed May 28, 1950. He attended school in Ellsworth all 12 years. After graduation he joined the Navy 3 months before his 18th birthday. His home port was Honolulu, Hawaii serving on the ocean going tug boat Takelma. Ernie was discharded on July 26th of 1957. He served in the Korean War. After his discharge he attended Southwest Community College in Milford, NE studying Autho mechanics under the GI bill. Ernie worked at GM dealerships in Lincoln, NE; Denver, CO; Longmont, CO; Duncan, OK; Carrolton, TX; and Dallas, TX. He was a tune-up specialist and Service Advisor. He retired in July 2002. 

Ernie loved camping in the mountains and walking and fishing all the mountain steams. He was an avid bowler, a member of 3 leagues and carried a 170 average. Ernie learned to fly while living in Carrollton. He would go flying once a week doing touch and goes. He always wanted a grandchild to learn to fly so he could go with them. He loved RVing and going on travel trips with our church family and playing Hand'n'Foot. Ernie was easy going and always had a big beautiful smile for everyone. 

Ernie served as an Elder at Messiah Lutheran Church, Longmont, CO; also as an Elder at Prince of Peace in Carrollton, TX and at Genesis Lutheran Church. He was an active member of the Pedernales Thrivent group as a member and serving as the chairman. 

Ernie met his future partner while attending school in Milford, NE. Myrna was working in Lincoln, NE. They were married October 19th, 1958 in Hollinger, NE. They have 3 sons, Keith Steven, Bret Allan, and Matthew Lee. 

Ernie is survived by his wife of 61 years Myrna Lee Ellrod Choitz, sons Keith of Carrollton, TX, Bret and wife Kathy of Buckeye, AZ; and Matthew and significant other Sandy of the home. His sister Linda Epley and husband Clint of Canyon Lake, TX and brother Richard of Augusta, KS survive Ernie. Grandchildren Travis and wife Brianna of Fort Walton Beach, FL; Alexander and significant other Victoria of Marble Falls; LiAnne and significant other Aaron of of Buckeye, AZ; Brian and his wife Erin of Tonopath, AZ; Curtis and Carolyn of Buckeye, AZ; Justin and Jaxxon of the home. Sister in law's Phyllis Buvel of Oceanside, CA; and Carolyn Larson and husband Lanny currently from Banner County, NE. he is also survived by 6 Great Grandchildren. 3 boys and 3 girls. Ernie is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and God children. 

Ernie was preceeded in death by his parents, Herman and Louise Choitz, brothers K Robert and Arthur Lee; sisters Beverly Dougherty and Ruth Whitcher; a daughter Melody Lee, stillborn and a Great Grandson Zane Alexander, 9 months; and a brother-in-law Richard Ellrod. 

Memorial service will be held Monday June 8, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Genesis Lutheran Church, 15946 E. Highway 29, P.O. Box 994, Buchanan Dam, TX. Pastor Trey Rienstra officiating. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Building Fund of Genesis Lutheran Church or The Orphan Grain Train Highland Lakes, TX. That address is P.O. Box 937, Buchanan Dam, TX 78609. Burial will be later in Longmont, CO.
