Other than a couple of home town grade school/high school friends, Judy was my very longest friend. We met on the day we both arrived as Freshmen at Southern Illinois University. We hung out together as neither of our respective roommates had gotten there yet, and quickly discovered we had so much in common. We knew we were soulmates when we found out we were both Coca Cola peeps rather than Pepsi. We became roommates within two weeks. Among many other things, we shared a love for reading and a last name for several years, as we married brothers. I will miss you immensely, Judy. You are a part of me.

I love this photo of Judy, happy, glasses on, ever understated, in her element, with the earrings she got her ears pierced for in her seventies! Judy was the smart, funny, kind, home-spun gift-giving, genuine, calming kind of person I can only aspire to be. I got to know her at the BW neighborhood home bridge tables over the last twenty years or so. I am sad that Judy Pugh has left us. May she rest in peace. Much love to the family.

Judy was my friend for 48 years. We raised our kids together, went on vacations and shared confidences. Judy was whip-smart, funny and fun-loving, and a consummate conversationalist. She was the best listener I’ve ever known, patient and contemplative. As we aged, I came to appreciate her quiet wisdom more and more. My home is filled with beautiful items she has knitted, crocheted and scrap-booked for me over the years. This week, once again, I’ll unpack the quilted wreath ornament she gave me forty years ago and I will hang it on my tree as I do every year. And, I will think of Judy and how very lucky I am to have had her in my life.

My husband, Tom, and I met Judy’s brother, Ron, in the early ‘70’s. Not long after that, we met Judy, Chuck, and their boys. Through the years, during the Pugh’s visits to Austin, we got to know Judy, little by little. Five years ago, we moved back to Austin and have had the great honor of getting to know Judy, as not just the sister of our friend, but as a friend, period.
My life has been enriched by conversations I’ve had with Judy.
She changed my appreciation of love of family, by the unwavering support she showed her own. She allowed me to embrace the various challenges we encounter in our daily lives, by embracing them herself with grace and aplomb. Her sharp humor and brilliant perception are traits that shined.
I will miss her.

Judy never made anyone feel small, even if she was a zillion times smarter than you.
She exemplified kindness and listening as the right path.
Always felt good after we talked, No doubt she had a good yuck later on!
I will try to pick up the baton.

Judy was my sister-in-law and friend for over 40 years. She was the best. We did numerous projects together: our system was I’d have the wild ideas and she would actually bring them to fruition. One time I decided we needed holiday sweatshirts with braided wreaths on them. HOURS and HOURS later, we had great holiday shirts. All of our projects, whether planning for holiday meals or family reunions, required lots of what we called “dithering.” Ron always said he could tell when Judy and I were talking on the phone because I was always laughing. We did tons of things together; shopping, book club, bridge, scrapbooking, etc. A big part of my life is now missing. Judy was loved by many people - she had lots of close friends and a loving family. We all have lost a lovely person.
