Dolores Huerta

Obituary of Dolores Graciela Huerta

Please share a memory of Dolores to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our beloved Dolores Graciela Huerta, age 81, was called to our Heavenly Father on Saturday, September 21, 2019.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Cristina Alaniz and her sister, Manuela Guerra.

Dolores was born on September 5, 1938 in Falfurrias, Texas.  While a student at Falfurrias High School, she worked at the ticket counter of the Alameda Theater in Downtown Falfurrias.  There, she met the love of her life, Alberto Huerta.  The two were married on November 22, 1958.  She later worked as a full-time mother, rearing three fine sons.  Dolores’ and Alberto’s proudest achievement as parents is that all three sons and most grandchildren so far have graduated from The University of Texas at Austin.

Dolores helped guide the hearts and minds of many other young children in Falfurrias as well.  During the 1970s she worked as a teaching assistant for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes, a job she would cherish for the rest of her life.  She also helped prepare countless local children for their sacraments, serving as a catechism teacher in the CCD program at her local parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Over the years she was active in the Sacred Heart Club, Altar Society and church choir, among other organizations.

Dolores is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 60 years, Alberto Huerta; her sons, Alberto Huerta, Jr. and his wife, Belinda, Javier Huerta and his wife, Jennie, and Jerry Huerta and his wife, Sarah; his grandchildren, Wesley Wilkes and his wife, Lauren, Nicholas Huerta, Daniel Huerta, Mateo Huerta, Adam Huerta, Jacob Huerta, Allyson Scott, and Farrah Scott; great grandchildren Natalie Wilkes, Alexia Wilkes and Aubrie Wilkes, and many other loving family and friends.

The family wishes to thank the many angels in human form encountered on this journey - the physicians, nurses and healthcare staff at St. David's Medical Center, St. David's Rehabilitation Hospital, Westminster Senior Living and Hospice Austin, who all took such loving care of Dolores.

Active Pallbearers will be, Nicholas Huerta, Adam Huerta, Daniel Huerta, Mateo Huerta, Stephen Huerta, Hector Huerta, Isaac Huerta, and Marcus Huerta.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Wesley Wilkes and Jacob Huerta.
