Obituary of Herman Maurice Nelson

Herman Maurice Nelson, 90, of Austin passed away peacefully at home, November 12, 2018. He was born in Peoria, Illinois, March 31, 1929 to Herman Moore Nelson and Ruth Enderton Nelson.

After completing his education, he joined the Army Air Corps. In 1954, he married Helen Marie Knebel and they raised 4 children. Most of his life he worked in sales. Aside from his family, the other love of his life was the Arts. He was a lifetime member of the Austin Poetry Socie and one of four founders of the Austin International Poetry Festival. He was an award-winning published poet, playwright, and a published singer-songwriter, you can check him out online under Herman Nelson at sonobeatrecords.com. He also sketched and painted. After study of Tarot, he designed and published Elksinger’s Perfected Tarot deck and book. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen Marie, and his parents.

He is survived by his sister, Barbara Mattecheck and husband Eugene, four children and their spouses, Hope Camacho and husband Alfredo, Heather Meyer and husband Mike, Michael Nelson and wife Marcie, and Holly Outlaw and husband Gary, five grandchildren, Charles (Trey) Adams, Nelson Adams and wife Kristen, Austin Meyer and wife Jodi, Courtney Meyer, and Brittany Outlaw, and four great- grandchildren, Kyrsten, Jake, and Sarah Adams, and Connor Ingersoll Meyer, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and a bounty of friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday January 5, 2018 at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin 4700 Grover Ave Austin, Texas 78756.
