Obituary of Jerrold J Kelly

Jerrold J. Kelly, 88, of Austin Texas passed away on November 5 2018. Born in Sheldon Iowa, raised in and graduated from Rock Rapids H. S. , Iowa. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nancy R. Kelly of Austin. Daughters; Sheryl Ginsburg of Austin, Jill Kinkade (Kent) of Austin, sister; Karen Gilliland of Oregon, brother; George P. Kelly (Alejandra), of Mexico City. He was preceded in death by his parents; Clarence P. Kelly and Irene Nugent Kelly, infant sister; Mariel, sister; Jane Capobianco (Faust), and brother-in-law Ed Gilliland. Jerry graduated in 1953 from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering. After graduation he began his career with Tips Iron and Steel Company culminating with his position as President his final six years. After his retirement in 1993 he remained active as a management advisor and consultant within the structural steel community. He was an associate member emeritus of Associated General Contractors (AGC), was active with Construction Specification Institute (CSI), American Subcontractors Association (ASA), Structural Engineering Associate of Texas (SEAOT), American Welding Society (AWS), and Texas Structural Steel Institute (TSSI) where he served as Director for many years beginning in 2002. He was a licensed Structural Engineer and in 1981 became a certified welding inspector. Jerry was a proud Texas Longhorn and member of the Texas Exes. Association. He maintained his midcourt second row seat at the Erwin Center watching the Longhorn basketball teams for 42 years and was an avid Austin golfer with a regular foursome until the loss of his group and his health prevented him to play.
