Obituary of Linda-Marie Schulz
Please share a memory of Linda-Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Linda-Marie Schulz, 67, of Austin, claimed the promise of her baptism on October 4, 2018. She died peacefully, surrounded by her family. Linda was born October 17, 1950, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Paul and Elaine (Zippel) Kay. Her childhood was spent in Milwaukee and Waukegan. In high school, her father's job transferred him to Texas. She arrived in Austin expecting to see lots of horses, cowboy boots, and cowboy hats. She was sadly mistaken. She graduated from Travis High School in 1968. In 1969, she met the love of her life, Ken Schulz. They married on October 24, 1970, and began establishing their roots together in Austin. With the birth of her firstborn, she started her career as a stay-at-home mom. She and Ken were blessed with three children. When her first child started college, she took the courageous step of re-entering the workforce. She capitalized on her love of crafting and took a job helping establish the North Austin Hobby Lobby, which led to managing the fabrics department. Her duties expanded as she took an additional role serving in the business office. With that, she discovered new talents she wanted to further develop, so she took another bold step and enrolled in a business/office training program at Austin Community College (ACC). Through that program, she began a 19-year career at ACC, working in the Continuing Education and Purchasing departments. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and found a great sense of peace and joy in her faith, her family, and her friends. She was a quiet person who preferred to work behind the scenes. You could find her at gatherings helping in the kitchen, keeping an eye on the kids, and enjoying the laughter and conversations of the loved ones surrounding her. She was a great baker and loved to share that passion with her family. For birthdays and at Christmas, her grandchildren could count on receiving their own batch of chocolate chip cookies. (They just had to keep them out of reach of their parents!) She loved crafts, especially sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She channeled this passion in many ways, most notably in the many baby blankets she knitted for baptisms at Gethsemane Lutheran Church. She felt much pride in wrapping these children of God in a blanket created with her own hands. At Gethsemane, she treasured serving her faith community as part of the Altar Guild, organizing the clothes closet, and participating in mission trips to Piedras Negras/Eagle Pass. Cherishing her memory are her husband and best friend, Ken Schulz; son Steve Schulz and wife Lissa, daughter Denise Schulz, and son David Schulz and wife Betsy; grandchildren Emily and Nate Schulz and Elijah, Griffin, and Jack Schulz; sister-in-law Jewel Schulz Kay, brother Gary Kay and wife Kathy, and brother Tim Kay and wife Helen; and niece Cicely Kay. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 13, at 11 a.m., at Gethsemane Lutheran Church (200 West Anderson Lane, Austin, TX 78752). Memorial donations may be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association (912 Killian Hill Road, S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047, https://www.lbda.org/go/honor-and-memorial-gifts) or Gethsemane Lutheran Church. The family would like to thank Arden Courts, Senior Sitters, and Kindred Hospice for their loving care of Linda. To plant a tree in memory of Linda-Marie Schulz , please visit our Tribute Store.
