Dr. Thomas Leonard of Austin, Texas, passed away on June 25, 2018. He was born to Aubrey and Agnes Leonard on September 15 ,1933. His family lived in Rochester Minnesota until his father took a position with the Federal Government as County Highway Engineer for the United States. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1951. Dr. Leonard continued his education at George Washington University and George Washington Medical School in Washington D.C, graduating 1958. After graduation, he interned in surgery at George Washington University Hospital and completed a four year surgical residency at the Mayo Clinic, from 1960 - 1964. During this time, he met his wife to be, Sandra Trisler, and they married in 1963. He and his growing family moved to Denton, Texas, where he was in private practice for two years. He was called to military duty, and served in the Navy from 1966-1968 , as a Naval surgeon during the Vietnam War. In May, of 1968, they moved to Austin, Texas to begin his private surgical practice until 1995. He served as Chief of the Surgical Staff at St.David's Hospital and also served as President of Austin Surgical Society. He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His love of classical music, tennis, and golf, took up most of his free time. He and Sandra frequented the Austin Symphony for many years and enjoyed seeing several world class artist. He loved playing tennis at Westwood Country Club, and formed many longtime friendships on and off the court. Golf was a game that he found challenging, at best, but enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends. He is survived by his wife, Sandra, his two children, Kevin Leonard, of Laguna Beach, CA, and Cindy Patterson and her husband Robert, of Austin TX., His sister, Sally Garrett, of Haddonfield NJ, and his brother John Leonard and wife Pam of Ventura, CA. He is blessed by four grandchildren, Aspen and Colton Patterson, and Dylan and Riley Leonard. He is preceded in death by his son, Marc Leonard. In Church, in 1993, at a Christmas service, Tom had a divine revelation of who Jesus Christ is, and received Him as his Lord and Savior. We are so grateful for the dedicated friends and family who have come along side us to give us strength at this difficult time. There will be a private, family memorial service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, July 10.
